The Artful Child® Preschool is the legacy of a beloved five-decade early childhood program in Toronto — a place where generations of families have experienced a gentle, art-rich approach to learning. Our Roncesvalles studio continues this tradition, offering a warm, home-like environment where children ages 3–5 explore, imagine, and develop confidence through play and meaningful creative experiences.
Grounded in the principles of Reggio Emilia, experiential learning, and current child development research, our preschool places artistic exploration at the heart of early education. Children learn through hands-on materials, open-ended invitations, and thoughtfully prepared environments that support autonomy, deep focus, and emotional regulation.
Our approach is recognized beyond our walls. The Artful Child® team regularly teaches other educators — from Montessori centres to municipal PD days — how to create high-quality creative environments like ours. The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) partners with us for school visits because our philosophy and practices align with the expectations of Ontario’s early learning curriculum. Creative Drop-In Classes (Ages 1–9 with caregiver)
Our drop-in art classes offer an engaging, flexible experience for young children to explore creativity at their own pace. Caregivers stay and play alongside their little ones as they paint, squish, pour, build, and discover in a warm, welcoming, process-based art environment.
Designed for toddlers and preschoolers, our drop-ins provide open-ended materials, sensory experiences, and a calm, home-like studio where children can follow their curiosity and express themselves freely.

Our Roncesvalles After-School Program offers a calm, inspiring space where children can unwind and create after the school day. Located just off Roncesvalles Avenue, our studio provides a warm, home-like environment designed to support children ages 4–9 through art, play, and meaningful exploration.
Children participate in daily process-art experiences using high-quality materials such as clay, dough, wire, natural loose parts, watercolour, fabric, light and shadow, and open-ended tools. With a focus on creativity rather than product, children build confidence, emotional regulation, problem-solving skills, and imaginative thinking.
Our educators are trained artists and early childhood professionals who specialize in play-based, Reggio-inspired learning. They support each child with gentle guidance, encouraging independence and self-expression in a safe, beautiful environment.

🎨 Summer Messy Mornings in Roncesvalles (Ages 4–9)
Process-art summer camp for children ages 4–9 in Toronto’s west end. Runs for 6 weeks July/Aug 9:30am - 12:30pm. Mondays through Thursdays. Weeks of July 6, 13th & 20th, Aug 4th, 10th, & 17th. Registration required. Spots fill quickly.
Summer Messy Mornings at The Artful Child® offer a joyful, sensory-rich summer experience for children who love to explore, create, and get wonderfully messy. Held in our beautiful Roncesvalles Village studio, this half-day process-art summer camp invites children ages 4–9 to dive into paint, clay, dough, water, natural materials, and imaginative building in a calm, comfortable environment.
Our Summer Messy Mornings are designed around open-ended creativity rather than finished products. Each session includes hands-on art invitations, large-scale collaborative projects, sensory play, and child-led exploration — all thoughtfully prepared by artist-educators who specialize in Reggio-inspired, play-based early childhood learning.
